'Id al-Fitr
marks the end of the fast of Ramaḍaan. This festival occurs during the
first day of the tenth month (Shawwal). Houses are decorated, gifts
purchased and cards are sent to neighbors, friends, and relatives. 'Id
prayers are said in the early morning and women and children are included in
this special time of prayer. Children receive presents during the day as
well as clothes and candy. This is a day when differences between Muslims
should be forgiven and forgotten. Families make a special effort to be
together during this day.
